Question 2
How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My response
My product engages with audiences by creating an emotionally immersive and visually nostalgic experience that appeals primarily to teenagers and young adults, particularly those who enjoy coming-of-age stories, romance, and slice-of-life narratives. The film’s use of soft cinematography, whimsical dialogue, and symbolic imagery encourages viewers to emotionally connect with the characters’ creativity, uncertainty, and desire for connection. Audiences are drawn into Sora and Kaito’s world through relatable themes such as self-expression, fear of the future, friendship, and the excitement of fleeting youthful moments.
The product specifically targets audiences who appreciate media texts similar to indie romance films, nostalgic dramas, and youth-centered streaming content. The blend of realism with magical elements, such as moving sketches and poetic dialogue, offers escapism while still addressing authentic teenage emotions. This makes the opening particularly engaging for Gen Z audiences, who often value aesthetically driven, emotionally resonant content that can also perform well on social media platforms through visually appealing clips, edits, and promotional trailers.
To maintain audience engagement, my product uses conventions such as mystery, emotional intrigue, and character chemistry. The open-ended nature of the introduction encourages viewers to continue watching in order to discover how Sora and Kaito’s relationship develops and what deeper meanings their creative bond may hold. The use of montage, music, and visually rich settings also supports audience gratification by offering both entertainment and emotional depth.
As a real media text, my product would most likely be distributed through digital streaming platforms such as Netflix, A24, or Amazon Prime Video, as these platforms commonly support independent, youth-oriented, and visually artistic productions. It could also gain traction through short-form promotional marketing on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, where trailers, aesthetic edits, and behind-the-scenes content could attract younger viewers.
Additionally, the film could be promoted at youth or indie film festivals, where creative storytelling and unique visual approaches are celebrated. Its cross-platform distribution strategy would combine streaming accessibility with social media virality, maximizing reach among modern audiences.
Overall, my product engages audiences through emotional relatability, visual beauty, and genre familiarity while its realistic distribution would rely on digital platforms, streaming services, and social media marketing to effectively reach contemporary youth audiences.
